We’ll nurture your career by providing you with the support and development opportunities you need, by trying to make sure you spend as much time as possible doing what you’re really great at, and by allowing you to take ownership of a little bit (or even a big bit) of our business. We know that if our employees grow, we grow. And right now we’re growing a lot.
At the end of every year we distribute 10% of our pre-tax profits among our employees. Everybody in the company gets an equal proportion of their salary, no matter what job they do. We then top that up with a bonus that recognises the performance of each individual in helping us to grow our business.
Our efforts to understand how people feel about their work at Source revealed that they were least likely to be happy around the middle of the week. So we started having a cake delivered every Wednesday afternoon. Now everybody’s much happier on a Wednesday. Then they persuaded us to buy a champagne fridge. We might have to stop asking soon.
At the end of every year, anyone who has worked for us for five years or more gets to pick a destination and make the case for us all going there. Then we have a vote and take the whole team to whichever destination is the most popular. So far we’ve been to Istanbul, Seville, Dubrovnik, Corfu and the Loire Valley.
Our culture has people at its heart, recognising them, first and foremost, as human beings who have loves, fears, hopes and dreams, many of which have nothing whatsoever to do with work. While we’re at work together we try to treat each other with fairness, kindness, respect, and humility. And then we go home to the people and things that matter most.
Many of our employees are former consultants, who loved consulting but not the lifestyle that went with it. We provide them with interesting and challenging work in a more flexible environment. We might ask them to travel occasionally, but usually for a few days at a time to places like New York, Paris or Dubai, rather than for a few months at a time to the back end of nowhere. We give them the chance to take ownership of something, and to work with the leaders of the most successful professional services firms in the world.
